Suburb Profile - Maribyrnong

Although Maribyrnong is not actually a part of Moonee Valley, its architectural style, affordability and capitol growth are more influenced by the goings on in Moonee Valley than its own neighbouring suburbs in the City of Maribyrnong. Geographically, it borders Avondale Heights, Essendon West, Aberfeldie, Moonee Ponds and Ascot Vale – which it shares its postcode with. The suburb itself has been transformed over the last decade or so with some of Melbourne’s most significant inner-urban redevelopment projects happening within its borders including Waterford Green and the refurbished ordinance buildings, the spectacular townhouse views from Horizon Drive, the superb Riverbank Estate and the sought-after Edgewater Estate with its unique waterfront lifestyle – plus some delightful established pockets ranging from cute Californian Bungalows around the Mitchell Street area to the multi-million dollar homes along The Esplanade. With so much river frontage, Maribyrnong obviously boasts a huge range of recreational amenities including Pipemakers Park and Coulson Gardens along Chifley Drive, plus the popular Maribyrnong Aquatic Centre and of course Highpoint Shopping Centre and cinemas, plus a number of local schools, bus services and tram routes to Moonee Ponds, Footscray and the CBD.
